Review from Out Impact
Allison Iraheta (Twitter, MySpace) has come a long, long way since starting out as a semi-shy contestant on season 8 of American Idol. It was fun seeing her being more of a performer during Adam Lambert’s Glam Nation Tour show in Myrtle Beach, SC at the House of Blues on July 3, 2010, and coming out of shell, and rocking it out and being playful with the crowd. She played a handful of songs off her debut album, Just Like You, to a attentful sold out crowd. At times she reminds me of P!nk and Avril Lavigne, which is not bad company to be in. It’s still hard to believe she’s 18, and her songs fit in with pop-rock radio, but I think she still has some ways she needs to separate herself from blending in and to differentiate herself. Iraheta absolutely needs to work with Linda Perry in the next few years who I think could bring a lot more out of her talent and give it more depth. It was a lot of fun to see her perform Pat Benetar’s “Heartbreaker” even when it seemed like only me and about 30 people knew what song it was, since we were dealing with a younger crowd who weren’t brought up on Benetar, but who should have been brought up on Benetar as a rock staple. I also enjoyed seeing her perform with Orianthi which the crowd loved, and it would be interesting to see them collaborate more together in the future.
