Thanks man...I appreciate it :-)
Now that I've had a chance to hear all the songs, I'll say this 1) She's singing very smooth and melodic, not pushing or forcing the tune. This has been an issue and maybe she's overcome that.I'm glad to hear that. I knew it was there, but she just kept pushing too hard and over-dramatizing. It's good that she's tamed that down. 2) I enjoy hearing her sing, but the song choices are not my first preference. However, Linda Ronstadt was/has been doing similar lower-key tunes in latter years, which I have enjoyed for many hours. I would prefer to hear her singing more upbeat, edgier stuff at this point, which leads me to..3) the arrangements for these songs may be for the tended display/video that is being presented, but it is not a hair-raiser. Actually, I could hear a couple of those tunes with a more electric or metallic vibe...
It's great to hear *something* coming from Allison, but I'm a bit concerned if this an indication of a trend for her musically. Hopefully not, and I will chalk this up to simply doing a job that required a certain splay of tunes...It's just that we haven't seen or heard any indication that the rocker is coming back. Everything we see and hear is unplugged, nothing upbeat or edgy...Could you image using that sultry, melodic voice, set with an rocky-edged tune? I'm afraid that this will not longer happen...
Folks, I'm a bit behind the times, and I recall several people referring Allison to fronting the group Paramore. I didn't know what/who Paramore was, until yesterday....I just finished repairing a TV and put it on the shelf to play a bit.One of our local broadcast channels plays "Cool Tv" which is a music video channel (kinda reminds me of the OLD MTV!!)..anyway there was this group on there singing, and it caught my attention...I watched, and thought..."that's what Allison should be doing"...you guessed it...it was Paramore...Pretty cool stuff..I may need to investigate this group a bit further..I didn't realize what kind of tracks these people laid down...Interesting.
I get ya classicrocker! At this point, I just want Allison to stay at it. Just keep working on her music. You just have to think one day, she is going to get that big break. I know I've said it a thousand times, but she is just still so young & so damn talented. I believe time is still on her side. I do agree as said in previous posts that it would be really nice if she would communicate atleast somewhat with her fans, especially her hardcore ones like us. Allison has so much potential with her voice & talent & artistry to present a wide range from anything resembling Linda Ronstadt, Stevie Nicks, Pink, Pat Benatar, Lita Ford, Courtney Love, Amy Lee, Janis Joplin, or even fronting a rock band like Paramore. I know Allison can sound like any of them or atleast close. The problem with being too old school, although I would love to hear some of that, is that it's just not "current". If Allison tries to reincarnate someone without somehow making it her own & current, she's just not going to sale. I think she's somehow has to find a happy medium that brings back a little old school rock, or bluesy rock, but also somehow make it current & marketable. Selfishly, as a hardcore fan, I would love nothing more than to see Allison cover about 15 to 20 old school rock songs with a full band live in concert just even once, but I know that's not what's going to sale in today's current music industry on an album. She needs to come up with something kind of fresh & different, but maybe I'm just stating the obvious. I do like the fact that she has pulled back some with her voice. She seems to be singing with a little more control which is great because it helps with her annunciation. She displayed such an amazing example of that when she was on American Idol the week she performed "Someone To Watch Over Me". I know it wasn't a rock song but as great as Allison's voice is & always is, that was maybe the best I have ever heard Allison sing, although everything Allison has ever done I've liked. She definately has oversung at times, maybe trying too hard. Sometimes the lyrics just seemed to run into each other. She is definately getting better it appears. It is nice to hear her belt one out once in a while though. I refuse to give up on her. I still listen to her quiet a bit.
