Since the start of his tour, Lambert has given his fellow season eight competitor Allison Iraheta primo visibility with an opening slot.

The upside is that Iraheta, who was recently dropped from her label, gets a chance to remind people that she possesses a brawny set of pipes and the potential to develop a career.

The downside is that, live, Iraheta too often resorts to shouting rather than singing and could use some guidance in steering her vocals.

As with most of the “Idol” alums – especially the also-rans such as David Archuleta, Elliott Yamin and Melinda Doolittle – it was gratifying to see how Iraheta, at only 18, has developed as a performer.

A diminutive figure in black with a maroon mane that she flailed like any good rocker chick, Iraheta connected with the snarling rocker “Don’t Waste the Pretty” and the acoustic “Scars.”

But her messy, breathless version of Pat Benatar’s “Heartbreaker” and the hoarse yelling throughout “Friday I’ll Be Over You” were evidence that Iraheta’s raw edges still need some smoothing.

Opener Allison Iraheta displayed truly astonishing force and a vocal power that belied her 18 years. I’m in love with this girl.

Iraheta, who finished fourth during Idol 8, brought a raw, rock edge to tunes Holiday, Scars and Robot Love (which should have been a monster hit). That she was dropped this week by Jive Records makes even less sense in the face of such a powerhouse performance. BOO.

Allison Iraheta:

One of the frustrating things about American Idol has been its skill at killing a good artist’s rock cred. Idol’s core audience tends to be frightened by anything edgy or angry, and the audience that would usually like the edgier contestants is kept away by the perception that anyone who’s been on American Idol can’t possibly be cool.

This, I fear, may be the nemesis of Allison Iraheta’s career: the girl is just too cool for American Idol.

With powerful stage presence and a flirty-cool rocker chick stage persona, she comes off wise beyond her years. Her naturally raspy voice sounded a little tour –weary, but somehow works for her, and sounded edgy and cool, rather than tired.

In fact, she reminds me a little of the Divinyls’ Christina Amphlett, but with her own unique vibe, and I can see her potential to develop a similar cult following. But then there’s that damn American Idol thing hanging on her back.

She performed a good set overall, with a decent band, albeit with some “help”: it bothered me that I could hear her voice on the backup vocals and not just on the lead. With her talent, Allison Iraheta doesn’t need to resort to such tricks, which only further lessen her credibility in the rock world…which is a shame, because without the Idol mark on her back, I feel she could be a contender to be huge in the rock world. (A colleague remarked, “Maybe she could change her name and start over to get rid of the Idol thing?”)

All in all, I enjoyed Allison’s set and would see her again; frankly, I enjoyed her performance more than Orianthi’s. Aside from the vocal help, the only major flaw I could find with Allison Iraheta’s performance was that it came to an abrupt end; she ran offstage with nary a “thank you”, bow, or goodnight.

But first tours are for learning that sort of thing.

Allison Iraheta made El Salvador shine in “American Idol”
A 16 year youngster entered United States most important singing competition. In it, Allison Iraheta shined and achieved being the only female of the competition.

The year of 2009 brought one of the best musical surprises for El Salvador on an international scale. Allison Iraheta, 16 years old, daughter of salvadorean parents from Sensuntepeque, entered and formed part of the most important competition of the United States: “American Idol”.

Her peculiar rocking style, her raspy voice and the selection of her songs made the jury – amongst them Simon Cowell, considered the iron judge – to say tha she was one of the biggest promises of the program and the competition. Even, Paula Abdul went to say that such was Allison’s talent that that se could “sing the phone book and still wow the public”.

Her performance brought her to become the only female in the competition, as well as reaching fourth place, leaving the program with her head held high and leaving “doubts” in the public and jury.

Thanks to the duet that a week before she did with another great talent of the program, Adam Lambert, many thought that both were a preview of a possible finale, both becoming the TV monster of “American Idol”.

At the moment, it was thought that Allison did not reach the final because of her latin roots, and Adam Lambert couldn’t win because of his marked sexual tendency.

All this disappeared when the youngster’s work saw the light with her new record production. Amidst so much work, Allison was a victim of rumors. After her exit of the program it was talked about her entry to Disney Channel for a program similar to “Hannah Montana”, rumors that her record company dispelled.

Right now, Allison is promoting her first recording material called “Just Like You”, a record that is even now excelling in the Internet, in sites in which the singer is having a lot of support from her fans.
This, above all, because of the presence she has in Facebook, MySpace and her official site on the web.
