This was the night Adam Lambert performed at the Venue - Allison “sang” that because she wasn’t 21-years-old, the Venue wouldn’t let her perform on stage, so she was walking around the parking lot giving her own little concert!

Q - How did Allison Iraheta from “American Idol” get to cover “Holiday?”

A - That took me a while to accept and swallow. Everyone would say Dilana, that’s fucking awesome; here’s this chick she’s still in the spotlight. Her management loves the song and she loves it. Why are you so depressed? I would say I was depressed for a week when I found out that she wanted to do my song, because at that point my record hadn’t come out yet. It was due to be released about a month after I heard this. It was like giving up my baby for adoption. I couldn’t let go of it. I wouldn’t give them a yes or a no. I said, ‘give me a few days to think about this.’ Eventually I came around. I just realized that the chances of her making it a hit are probably bigger than mine because she has financial back up and labels and stuff behind her, while I’m independent. Now I’m very happy that I did it. Every time I’ve seen her live on TV or radio she’s singing “Holiday.” It’s great. It’s brought a lot of awareness to her fans who didn’t know a lot about me. It’s a good thing you know?

Allison Iraheta: ‘American Idol’ star shares radio, stage time with Adam Lambert

Spicy Iraheta feeds off audience

Allison Iraheta should have this TV-fame thing figured out. It’s her second time.

Years before “American Idol” had heard of her, Iraheta competed on the Telemundo cable network. “It was difficult,” she recalled. “I was a (Los Angeles) girl, living in Mexico City for three months.”

This wasn’t her native country or her first language. She was 14, with every reason to be overwhelmed. She won; the prize was $50,000, an album and a step toward fame.

Except the album never seemed to happen. “Well, I got the money, anyway,” she said.

“I love the way she presented herself onstage,” Iraheta said of [Janis] Joplin. “Every song was gut-wrenching; you could feel everything.”

Joplin died 22 years before Iraheta was born, but this singer absorbs everything.

Her parents (El Salvador natives) like Spanish-language music, especially rancheros, so Iraheta began singing that way. “My sister said, ‘Do you know what you’re singing?’ No, but I’d sing anyway.”

She learned both languages. She won on Telemundo, was fourth on “Idol,” got record deals from both.

The result, “Just Like You,” is filled with high-octane songs written by other people. Iraheta, however, was the principal writer on the quietly moving “You Don’t Know Me.”

That’s part of one plan for her shows on the current tour. Iraheta slows down for a warm, acoustic version of “You Don’t Know Me” - then roars into “Don’t Waste the Pretty,” with Orianthi on the guitar (as she is on the radio version of the song).

Then come sets by Orianthi and Adam Lambert - which means Iraheta gets a big, boisterous audience. “I feed off the crowd’s energy,” she said. “Every night has been great.”

Opening acts for the “Glam Nation” tour include [...] Allison Iraheta, the now 18-year-old “Idol” fourth-place finisher.

“Yeah, this is the first tour on my own,” said Iraheta, who played the Wachovia Arena in September along with Lambert as part of the “American Idols Live” tour, treating the crowd to hot versions of Pink’s “So What” and Heart’s “Barracuda” nightly. “This is the first time I will be doing my own thing.”

Before her stint on “American Idol,” Iraheta, the youngest of three children born in Glendale, Calif., to Salvadoran immigrants, won the Telemundo competition show “Quinceanera,” on which she sang in both Spanish and English. She auditioned for “Idol” with a version of Aretha Franklin’s “(You Make Me Feel Like a) Natural Woman,” and placed fourth after strong performances of Patty Loveless’ “Blame It On Your Heart,” No Doubt’s “Don’t Speak” and Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me.”

After her elimination in the 14th week of season eight after a solo performance of “Cry Baby” and a duet with Lambert on “Slow Ride,” she quickly signed with 19 Entertainment and Jive Records, recording her first album “Just Like You,” which came out in early December and debuted at No. 35 on the Billboard 200.

“Every day off on the (Idols) tour, I would hit the studio,” Iraheta said. “They would send me songs, and I would listen to them to see if I liked them and if I could relate to them. That was my main goal with the album, to relate to the songs.

Recording during the hoopla of the “Idols” tour didn’t leave much time for songwriting (Iraheta had one co-write on her debut), so the singer has made that a goal of the upcoming tour.

After the duet with Lambert on Foghat’s “Slow Ride” reached No. 105, Iraheta hit the Hot 100 twice on her own as first single “Friday I’ll Be Over U” peaked at No. 58 and second release “Scars,” which she sang on the Feb. 25 episode of “Idol,” made it to No. 91. Third single “Don’t Waste The Pretty” should be zooming up the chart in time for the tour and the stop in Wilkes-Barre.

The singer plans to do those songs and others from her album in her 20-minute showcase on the “Glam Nation” tour.

Maybe she will even get the chance to sing again with her friend Lambert.

“Who knows, I might hit him up,” she said. “That would be a lot of fun, so maybe we could squeeze that in.”

Aaron Kelly showed his appreciation for fans who sent a poster of him that was constructed with lyrics — cool! Also concerning Aaron, whom the girls pronounced the season’s “biggest stud,” he’s apparently planning to ask Allison Iraheta out! “Are you gonna?” asked Siobhan, unconvinced. “It’s news to me.”
